Employment Opportunity – Combined Administrative Assistant

Emergency Management and Weed/Pest Assistant (Full-time):

The Fall River County Emergency Management and the Weed and Pest Departments are accepting applications for a combined Administrative Assistant.  Duties include assisting the public on the phone and in person, data entry, correspondence and mailings, filing, and other duties as assigned.   Additionally may be called upon to assist with Emergency Operations Center, deployment to the scene, resource ordering, tracking and coordinating with assisting agencies.  May be exposed to fire, smoke, toxic and hazardous materials that could pose a significant risk to health. Must be able to apply herbicides/pesticide and operate mosquito surveillance equipment, ATV-UTV vehicles, Pick-ups and trailers.

Starting wage is $11-$13/hour depending on experience. Benefits include contributions to SD Retirement, paid leave, health and dental insurance.

Qualifications:  Working knowledge of Microsoft computer applications including Word and Excel, good organizational skills, effective written and verbal communication, attention to detail, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies and the public, ability to read maps and legal descriptions, ability to work independently, positive attitude and desire to learn. Physically must be able to lift 50+ lbs and walk 4-5 miles over uneven terrain.   Work assignments may be in all kinds of weather under varying conditions.

Must possess the ability to learn all requirements of the EMP and related fields that ensure the safety of residents and protection of property. Must obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License with right-of-way and rodent control endorsement.

Education: High school diploma or GED certificate.

Must possess a valid South Dakota Drivers license
