Employment Opportunity – 24/7 Tech (part-time)

The Fall River County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the 24/7 Tech position. Duties include administering PBTs and UAs, data entry into computer system.  Hours are 5:30PM -7:30PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday, hours may be increased based on scheduling needs. Road Maintenance Hearing – Northwest Minimum Maintenance

Update from Hearing:  All roads were passed a Minimum Maintenance Roads.

A hearing will be held for road maintenance of county roads located in the northwestern area of Fall River County.  (The area marked with a 1 below)  The hearing will be held on February 15th, 2024 at 9:30 am at the Fall River County Courthouse.

 

The exhibits below show the roads being considered for minimum maintenance.


Pine Hills Road (County Road 6E) in Township Nine (9) South, Range Three (3) East of the Black Hills Meridian beginning one half (1/2) mile east of the township line between Range Two (2) East & Range Three (3) East and continuing east for a distance of one and a half (1 ½) miles along the section line between Section Six (6) and Section Seven (7) and Section Five (5) and Section Eight (8) to end of road in said Township and Range. [see Exhibit A]


Coal Creek Road (County Road 8S) in Township Nine (9) South, Range Two (2) East of the Black Hills Meridian beginning at the intersection with Fiddle Creek Road (County Road 8) then south for a distance of three-fourths (¾) of a mile along the section line between Section Twenty-one (21) and Section Twenty-two (22) in said Township and Range. [see Exhibit B]


Unnamed Road (County Road 6W) in Township Nine (9) South, Range Four (4) East of the Black Hills Meridian beginning at the intersection with SD Highway 71 South then north along the quarter line in Section Twenty-five (25) to north section line of Section Twenty-five (25) in said Township and Range.  [see Exhibit C]


Rocky Ford Road (County Road 11S) in Township Nine (9) South, Range Five (5) East and Township Nine (9) South, Range Four (4) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection of Highland Road then meandering south and west for an approximate distance of two and one-half (2 ½) miles, then across the Cheyenne River, then south on the section line between Section Eleven (11) and Section Twelve (12) for an approximate distance of three-quarters (3/4) of a mile, then west for approximately three-eights (3/8) of a mile on the section line between Section Eleven (11) and Section Fourteen (14) in said Township and Range. Tax Bill Mailing Issues

Due to a software conversion issue with the address update file some 2023 pay 2024 tax bills were sent to incorrect addresses and individuals.

  • If you are an owner who sold property this last year and still received a tax bill please disregard. You will be receiving a letter to this effect as soon as we are able to finish processing the corrected address file.
  • If you are a new owner who purchased property this last year we will be printing new tax bills. You will be receiving the new bill in the mail as soon as we are able to finish processing the corrected address file.
  • If you made an address change with the county this last year the tax bill was mailed to the old address. You will be receiving the new bill in the mail as soon as we are able to finish processing the corrected address file.
  • If you are an exempt organization you may have received a tax bill with a zero dollar amount.
  • If your address contains 4 lines instead of 3, for example if your address has a Care-of line the system may also have formatted your address incorrectly. We will resend these as they are returned to us in the mail.

If you do not wish to wait to know what your taxes are, the total taxes due for 2024 are available on our website. On the Fall River County website click ‘Online Map’ and then ‘Real Estate Search’. You can then use your name, address, or parcel number to search for your property.  Tax information is located near the bottom of the property page just above the property sketch.

Please be aware that property owners are responsible for property taxes regardless of whether they receive a tax notice in the mail.  If you own property in Fall River County and do not receive a tax notice in the next month please contact the Treasurer’s office.

Elderly & Disabled Assessment Freeze Applications in the mail

The Treasurer’s office has mailed out applications for the Elderly & Disabled Assessment Freeze to individuals who were in the program in Fall River County last year.  Eligibility Requirements for 2024 are as follows:

  • Must be at least 65 years of age or disabled.
  • Income cannot exceed $40,290 for a single-member household, or $51,801 for a multiple-member household.
  • Have owned the single-family dwelling for at least one year and have been a resident of South Dakota for at least one year.
  • Have resided for at least 200 days of the previous calendar year (2023) in the single-family dwelling, the value of said dwelling must be under $345,340.

Owners who have not previously been in the program can apply using this application. This letter from the treasurer’s office further explains the documents needed to file the application.

Applications are due April 1, 2024. (Applications for the program must be filed yearly).

Update from Road Hearing: All roads were passed as no maintenance except for Rocky Ford Road. This road has been moved to the Minimum Maintenance hearing.

A hearing will be held for road maintenance of county roads located in the northwestern area of Fall River County.  (The area marked with a 1 below)  The hearing will be held on January 18th, 2024 at 10am at the Fall River County Courthouse.

The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of unnamed road on the section line between sections four (4) and five (5) in Township Eight (8) South, Range One (1) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection from Moss Agate Road north for a distance of one mile to the Township Boundary as no maintenance.


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of a portion of Moss Agate Road (County Road 9A)  in Township Eight (8) South, Range One (1) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the Wyoming Border east for a distance of four and one-half (4 ½) miles to the center of Section 11 in said Township and Range as no maintenance.  


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of unnamed road on the section line between sections twenty-three (23) and twenty-six (26) in Township Eight (8) South, Range Two (2) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection from Dewey Road (County Highway 6463) west for a distance of one-half (1/2) mile to the end of the road as no maintenance.


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota, on Thursday will be considering the designation of Coal Creek Road (County Road 8S)  in Township Nine (9) South, Range Two (2) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the northeast corner of the Southeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter (SE1/4SE1/4) of Section Twenty-One (21) south for a distance of one and a quarter (1 1/4) miles and then west for a distance of one-half (1/2) mile to the end of the road in said Township and Range as no maintenance.  


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota, on Thursday will be considering the designation of Wild Sage Road in Township Seven (7) South, Range Three (3) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection with South Dakota Highway 89 west for a distance of one-half (½) mile along the section line between Section thirteen (13) and Section twenty-four (24), then northwesterly to the end of the road in said Township and Range as no maintenance.


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of Tall Grass Road in Township Nine (9) South, Range Three (3) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection with Plumb Creek Road (County Road 6S) west for a distance of one-half (½) mile along the section line between Section Twenty-Eight (28) and Section thirty-three (33) to the end of the road in said Township and Range as no maintenance.


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of a portion of Highland Road (County Road 71B)  in Township Eight (8) South, Range Four (4) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at where Highland Road leaves the section line in Section thirty-six (36) continuing northwest for a distance of one-half (½) miles to the section line between Section thirty-five (35) and thirty-six (36) in said Township and Range as no maintenance.  


The Board of Commissioners of Fall River County, South Dakota will be considering the designation of a portion of Rocky Ford Road (County Road 11S)  in Township Nine (9) South, Range Five (5) East and Township Nine (9) South, Range Four (4) East of the Black Hills Meridian starting at the intersection of Highland Road then meandering south and west across the Cheyenne River for an approximate distance of two and one-half (2 ½) miles, then south on the section line between Section Eleven (11) and Section Twelve (12) for an approximate distance of three-quarters (3/4) of a mile, then west for approximately three-eights (3/8) of a mile on the section line between Section Eleven (11) and Section Fourteen (14) in said Township and Range as no maintenance.
