Veteran’s Service Officer – Return to Old Location

Due to public demand the Veteran’s Service Office has moved back to his old location on the ground floor of the Fall River County Courthouse (906 N River St). A reminder that it is always best to call ahead for an appointment as the VSO must be away from the office to perform some duties. Tax Notices 2018

Landowners in Fall River County should be receiving their tax notices in the mail this week (Jan 14th).   Taxes are due in two payments.  The first half is due by April 30th, the second half by October 31st.

Employment Opportunity: Jail Officer

Jailer/Correctional Officer: The Fall River County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for correctional officers. Ideal applicants are those with good moral character, in good physical condition and who are interested in serving their community as a member of the Fall River County Sheriff’s Office Team.  Correctional officers, upon hire, undergo on-going training courses along with on-the-job training to prepare them to supervise inmates.

Starting wage: $12.50/hour. Shifts are day, evening and overnight, and include weekends and holidays. Benefits include paid health, vision and dental insurance; vacation, sick and personal leave and South Dakota State Retirement.  Applicant must be at least 18 year of age with high school diploma or GED.  Must have a valid SD drivers license and have no felony convictions. Director of Equalization & GIS – New Location

The Director of Equalization’s Office (assessors) and the GIS Office have moved to their new location at 1029 N River St. This new location is located directly across the street from the courthouse in the former SD Extension and Weed & Pest Office building.  There will be an open house for the public on Friday, January 19th from 2 -5 pm.  

 

 

2017 Mill Levy (Taxes Payable 2018)

The mill levies for the 2017 taxes (payable in 2018) have been released. Most total mill levies dropped again this year with only 3.6% seeing an increase. The greatest total mill increase was on AG classified property within Oelrichs which saw a 2% change.  Mill Levy Sheet 2017 (pay 2018)

School District

The Oelrichs and Hot Springs School levies decreased again this year; Oelrichs from 7.998 to 7.498 (Owner-Occupied) and Hot Springs from 8.235 to 7.852 (Owner-Occupied). The Edgemont School levy increased for AG class property from 6.155 to 6.3 but decreased slightly for Owner-Occupied and Non-AG properties.

County

The County mill levy decreased about 0.16 mills for every tax district.

Fire District

The following Fire Districts saw in increase in their mill levy this year:

  • The Ardmore Fire District mill levy increased from 0.225 to 0.263 (17%)
  • The Edgemont Fire District mill levy increased from 0.101 to 0.110 (9%).
  • The Hot Springs Fire District mill levy increased from 0.421 to 0.424 (1%).

The following Fire Districts saw a decreased in their mill levy this year:

  • The Cascade Fire District mill levy decreased from 1.115 to 1.097 (2%).
  • The Minnekahta Fire District mill levy decreased from 0.350 to 0.308 (12%).
  • The Oelrichs Fire District mill levy decreased from 0.251 to 0.239 (5%).
  • The Oral Fire District mille levy decreased from 0.670 to 0.635 (5%).
  • The Smithwick Fire District mill levy decreased from 1.607 to 1.585 (1%).

Ambulance District

The Oelrichs and Hot Springs Ambulance District levies decreased; Oelrichs from 0.149 to 0.139 (7%) and Hot Springs from 0.213 to 0.206 (3%). The Edgemont Ambulance District levy increased from 0.197 to 0.209 (6%).

Cities

Edgemont: The Edgemont City levy increased from 15.803 to 15.866 (0.4%). Within Edgemont property classified as AG saw a 0.2% increase in the total mill levy; Owner-Occupied and Non-AG properties saw a 1% decrease.

Hot Springs: The Hot Springs levy decreased from 7.043 to 7.042. Within Hot Springs the total mill levy decreased 2-4% depending on property classification.

Oelrichs: The Oelrichs levy increased from 6.876 to 7.581 (10%). Within Oelrichs property classified as AG saw a 2% increase, Owner-Occupied property saw a 0.1% increase, and Non-Ag property saw a 1% decrease.
