Ready, Set, Go!

Ready, Set, Go! is a nationwide program that educates residents about proactive measures to take before an emergency and actions to follow when communities are threatened.

Ready – Prepare Now

Individuals should always be in ‘Ready’ status. Be aware of the hazards that can threaten your community. Have a plan in place.

  • Fall River County will use CodeRED alerts along with social media (facebook), news media, and the county website to alert residents of emergencies. Be sure to sign up with CodeRED
  • Know the seasonal threats and hazards in your area
    • Wildfire
    • Winter Storm
    • Flood
    • Landslide
  • Make a family evacuation and communication plan include:
    • family phone numbers
    • out-of-town contacts
    • family meeting locations
    • special note to parents: if your child is old enough to stay home alone but not old enough to drive you need to make sure they understand what to do if they are home alone when an emergency happens
  • Assemble an emergency Go Kit with:
    • food, water, and necessary supplies for at least 72 hours
    • Don’t forget the following:
      • People & Pets
      • Prescriptions, Medical devices
      • Papers, important documents
      • Computers, Phones, other personal devices
      • Passports and IDs
      • Pictures, photos albums
    • For things that you can’t keep in a Go Kit all the time have a list in the bag. This will prevent you from forgetting something during the excitement of emergency event.

Set – Be Alert

The issuing of a ‘Set’ status means there is significant danger in your area.

  • Consider voluntarily relocating with family/friends or to a shelter outside the affected area.
    • You don’t have to wait for an evacuation order to leave sometimes getting out early is best.
    • This should especially be considered by those with health issues who may take longer to evacuate.
    • This may also be the time to move livestock.
  • Go ahead and pack your vehicle
    • Go Kit
    • Things on your Go list
    • Have pets in carriers or on leashes and ready to load at a moment’s notice
  • Keep in mind unique needs for your family and special equipment for pets and livestock.
  • Stay aware of the latest news and information from public safety officials

Go! – Evacuate

Danger in your area is imminent and life threatening

  • Leave! Even if the threat is not yet at your house it is possible that evacuation routes could be threatened.
  • If you choose to ignore this advisement, you must understand emergency services may not be able to assist you further.
  • Follow instructions from emergency personnel, stay on designated evacuation routes and avoid closed areas.
