Temporary Employment

Fall River County Weed Sprayer: This is a part time job with variable days and hours subject to contracted work and weather conditions. Will work May through October. Must be 18 years or older, driver’s license, can lift 50+lbs and physically fit to bend, squat, lift and extensive walking. Must obtain SD commercial pesticide applicator licenses with General and Right-of-Way.

Experience with maintenance of small engines and pump systems preferred. Must be able to apply herbicides/pesticide and operate ATV-UTV vehicles, pickups and trailers, ability to read maps and legal descriptions, ability to work independently, positive attitude and a desire to learn. Data Entry/Administrative Assistant:  The Fall River County Director of Equalization is accepting applications for a Data Entry/Administrative Assistant. This position involves gathering and listing information, entering data, uploading photos and doing sketches of all properties, and performing field inspections of properties. Also, assisting with other various day to day office activities. Qualifications include strong computer skills, the ability to read legal descriptions and maps, and experience in customer service and good public relations skills. A background in finance, property appraisal, real estate, or construction is beneficial but not required. The requirements include: a high school diploma (college degree preferred) and a valid driver’s license. The starting wage is $15-$16/hour depending on experience. Benefits include paid health, vision and dental insurance; vacation, sick and personal leave and South Dakota State Retirement. Those without South Dakota CAA certification can apply as an assessor trainee. The starting wage is $15.50/hour for a trainee, $17-$18/hour for a certified assessor depending on experience. 911 Dispatcher: Fall River County Sheriffs Office is accepting applications for full-time 911 Dispatchers. The starting wage: $18.50/hour uncertified or $20.50 – $21.50/hour certified (DOE). Shifts are day, evening, and overnight, and include weekends and holidays. Benefits include paid health, vision and dental insurance; vacation, sick and personal leave and South Dakota State Retirement.

The position involves substantial public contact, receiving incoming radio and phone calls, and entering information into the computer-aided dispatch system.  Individuals must be able to multi-task with accurate typing (35 words per minute) and computer skills. This facility handles multiple calls from different agencies which will need to be dispatched out simultaneously. Applicants must be able to remain calm and maintain composure and treat people with respect even under pressure in stressful situations. Individuals must possess the ability to consistently think clearly; act quickly; and calmly in a wide variety of situations.

The position requires SD State Certification for radio dispatching. The training, completed in Pierre, SD will be provided to successful applicants.  Position requires a medical physical (UA and hearing test), fingerprinting and background check.
